21-Year-Old American Has Been Celebrating Cinco De Mayo Since 10 AM And Doesn’t Know Why
TEXAS – Rebecca Colston, a college junior who is freshly drinking age, has been slurping down margaritas and putting back tequila shots with her friends since 10 Am and she has no idea why.
“I mean, it’s Cinco De Mayo! Like, I don’t know the history behind it, but I know that you’re supposed to blackout today,” slurred an intoxicated Rebecca after coming out of the women’s restroom with five of her friends who couldn’t stop giggling.
Often confused with Mexican Independence Day, Cinco de Mayo marks the anniversary of the 1862 victory by Mexican troops over invading French forces at the Battle of Puebla. American bars and restaurants gear up for this holiday every year and market drink happy hours and food specials and yet, the holiday is rarely celebrated south of the US Border.
By press time, many young Americans had already had their first alcoholic beverage and even more have made it their entire personality for the evening.
