“I’VE BEEN KNOWING THAT DRAKE ISN’T REALLY BLACK, KNOW I’M SAYING?”
The rap beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar continues to rage on, but some critics say that the Compton rapper has had the last word.
The beef was prompted by rapper J. Cole’s verse on Drake’s newest album, For All The Dogs, where the rapper questioned who the best rapper was out of the three of them.
Wasting no time, Kendrick has gone to work to put this long-time argument to rest.
Within a matter of days, Lamar dropped two diss tracks, the first titled “euphoria”, and, before Drake even had time to respond with a track of his own, released a second track titled “6:16 in LA.”
Both diss tracks attack Drake’s racial identity, how he assimilates Black American culture for personal gain while having not grown-up “black”, while further bringing up allegations against Drake for his inappropriate relationships with underage girls, particularly actress Millie Bobby Brown.
Weirdly enough, both rappers pointed fingers at the other for being more of a misogynist. Drake attacked Lamar for his alleged history of being a domestic abuser and for supporting artists who also have been known to abuse women, while Kendrick alleges that Drake has done the same thing but with underage women.
However, the beef came to a climax when mere hours after Drake released his responding diss track “Family Matters” on Saturday, May 4, Kendrick released a prepared track of his own, titled “Meet the Grahams” where he alleges that Drake has a secret daughter whom he neglects and that he is a gambling, drug, and sex addict.
Then, on Sunday, May 5, Kendrick released yet another diss track titled “Not Like Us” where he calls Drake an outright pedophile.
Drake was forced to then drop “The Heart Part 6” to directly deny these allegations, but some say that Kendrick has come out of the war on top.
Nevertheless, rap fans continue to argue amongst themselves about the beef, with the strongest argument on the street being that, “Misogyny aside, bro, Drake just isn’t black.”
