There She Goes Again! Your Mom is on the Phone Telling Her Friends Things You Never Said
In a tale as old as time, your mom is lying to her friends and telling them things that you never said. This has been happening to sons and daughters since the invention of the postal system. and you know that this time won’t be the last.
It always starts out with a little white lie. “My daughter said she loved the movie!” even though you said you thought it was alright at best. Still, it’s only a small lie and no one gets hurt so you let it go. But then, the lies start to become more elaborate and more specific and, eventually, the lies start to claim a victim: you.
“My son said he would love to help your son apply to colleges! Friday night? Sure, he can help him then!” Or, “You can’t find a babysitter? My daughter would be happy to watch the kids!” You’re in the room listening to her tell this absolute lie and you try to tell her that you never said that but it’s too late, her friends already believe her, and you would be embarrassing her if you try to tell them that she’s lying. You are stuck.
This time, she told her friends that you would love to help them carry their new couch up the stairs. You didn’t even know that they had a couch, let alone a new one, and now you have to go and move it. The cycle continues and all is right with the world, at least, for your mom it is.
